                        New Program Announcement

It is our hope that with our newly developed Native American New Enterprise Program, we will be able to bring opportunities for independent business success to the Midwest region.

Perhaps you or someone you know has been thinking about starting a business or is running a business right now. You may know of a group of students who are working on a business idea. Maybe you have a business idea of your own that you would like to explore. This program provides a path for developing that business and an opportunity for funds to develop the business, whether the business is just beginning or it has been operating for a few years.

The best part of the program is, it is completely free to all Tribal Members in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming. We are able to offer this program freely through a partnership with the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC) and the Bold Thinking Institute.

We believe that entrepreneurship is more than the current models of economic development and job creation. Entrepreneurship is an entirely different way of thinking about problem solving and working. Entrepreneurship is more than just choosing to be your own boss and writing a business plan. This new way of thinking offers opportunities to learn real entrepreneurial skill sets that are needed to give new businesses opportunities for success.

On October 21st, we launched the Native American New Enterprise Program (NANEP), which gives participants the knowledge to help them understand how to operate and grow their business. Until May 2010, this program will be openly available and participants can sign up at anytime between now and May 2010.

In addition to the educational resources, as the participants set and reach their goals, they may also have access to up to $10,000 in funds to help them grow their business. This is an initiative developed in collaboration with various partners and tribes in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wyoming and funded by the MMCDC. For more information about MMCDC, please visit: www.mmcdc.com.

We plan to support entrepreneurship on and off reservations through online, one-on-one mentoring along with formalized online learning modules and milestone achievements. Participants will also have the opportunity to speak and work directly with our business coaches.

Our primary focus as we launch this program is the identification and development of independent business-minded and entrepreneurially-minded members of the surrounding community. Our model for economic transformation depends on our ability to teach and cultivate entrepreneurship as a core set of skills that create both the mindset and the ability to develop quality ideas that can lead to sustainable companies and the creation of quality jobs. The core of this model depends on multiple organizations to promote this new culture of opportunity. This is why we would like to ask for your guidance and advocacy.

Below are three links to a general program description, an announcement flyer, and a link to our information page.
