Yes, We Must!
The financial system has been hit hard. The adverse effects on our
credit unions and members are plain to see and growing clearer by the
day. But CDCUs were built for tough times. Now, as the credit union
movement faces unprecedented challenges, we would like to invite you to
explore the historic opportunities of this moment.
Yes, We Must is the theme for the National Federation of Community
Development Credit Unions 35th Annual Conference on Serving the
Underserved, to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, June 10 - 13, 2009. This
timely conference will provide a rare opportunity to learn about
effective strategies for today and contribute to the credit union vision
for the sustainable financial system of tomorrow - a system that puts
people before profit.
The conference program is packed with educational sessions and
networking opportunities. Three workshop tracks will focus on critical
topics for credit unions today:
* Help for Homeowners will include information on how credit
unions can access affordable, government guaranteed mortgage loan
programs and professional counseling services to help members get
through the current crisis, mitigate losses and achieve sustainable
homeownership.
* Tips for Tough Times will include both strategies for survival
and opportunities for credit unions to grow among emerging markets in
this turbulent economy
* Working with the Community Development Financial Institutions
(CDFI) Fund will include detailed workshops with senior CDFI Fund staff
on federal certification and grant programs that can help credit unions
benefit from this unmatched source of capital for community development
finance.
The conference also includes a high-energy bonus track for Youth Credit
Union Programs. I have enclosed a copy of the conference brochure to
assist you and your members in planning. To stay up to date with our
constantly expanding program and for easy and secure online
registration, please visit our web site: www.cdcu.coop
<http://www.cdcu.coop/> .
We know how the economy has affected everyone, which is why we have kept
our conference rates as low as possible. As a special incentive, members
of the XXX League are invited to register for the conference at the
discounted member rate. Those planning to join us in June are
encouraged to register now and make hotel reservations as soon as
possible to lock-in our highly discounted rates.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Valerie Harrison,
Program Officer, at vharrison at cdcu.coop, or (800) 437-8711 x218.
We hope to see you in Phoenix!
Sincerely yours,
Clifford N. Rosenthal
